Agadir, a Berber word {Amazigh} meaning Collective Fortified Granary.
Population: 504,000 {2024 census}, on 29 February 1960 at 23:45, an earthquake [5.8 on the Richter scale] destroyed 90% of the city.
The late HM King Mohamed V said : If fate has decided to destroy the city of Agadir, its reconstruction depends on our faith and our will.
Since then, Agadir has gone from being a typical traditional Moroccan town to a modern, western-style city that is dynamic, charming and forward-looking, and has become the Kingdom's leading seaside resort.

Named 1st sardine port in the world and 1st fishing port in Morocco... Visit the trawler port, the sardine port, the wooden boat-building yard, the fish auction (morning wholesale)... Small motorboats, the fishing boat maintenance and restoration yard, the commercial port and the fishermen's restaurants behind the harbor offer the opportunity to sample a wide variety of fresh fish and shellfish.
Unfortunately, in recent years, the authorities have banned access to the port for tourists and unauthorized locals, for reasons unknown.
La Kasbah, la Citadelle, (Agadir Oufella, in Berber: Agadir du haut), a fortified village or large fortified house on high ground!) An ancient town of mysterious origins... built in the early 16th century by the Portuguese (called Santa Cruz)... in 1540... taken over by Sultan Mohamed Cheikh Saàdi, the old Kasbah is situated on a hill 236 m above the sea... with a beautiful panoramic view over the magnificent 9Km beach of fine blond sand and the entire white city of Agadir.
A visit for information is essential... the argan tree is a mythical and unique tree, which grows nowhere in the world but in the Agadir region... it has become a protected species by the Moroccan state, a true product of the Moroccan terroir and a Unesco world intangible cultural heritage... Food-grade Argan oil is highly fragrant and twice as rich as olive oil in vitamin A and omega 3 & 6 ... and cosmetic Argan oil is an excellent anti-wrinkle, used to combat brown spots and for hair and dry skin. It also makes a pleasant massage.
